Transportation

HISD’s Transportation Department safely transports thousands of students to and from school each day. Students attending their zoned or magnet schools are eligible for bus transportation if they live two or more miles from their school, with pick-up and drop-off at designated HISD bus stops. 

To request transportation for your student, contact your student’s campus. In the parent-driven request process, the request is submitted by the campus. Once the Routing & Scheduling Department receives that request, it will be processed within 10 business days. Only students eligible for transportation based on HISD’s Transportation eligibility requirements will be approved for transportation. A request for transportation must be submitted first, then eligibility will be determined based on the following requirements. 

HISD Transportation Goals

1. Reasonable student ride durations
   1. HISD will ensure student ride durations do not exceed 50 minutes for students attending their zoned school, and 80 minutes for students attending choice schools.
   2. HISD will eliminate the number of students picked up prior to 6:00 A.M.
2. Better communication and service
   1. HISD will increase the percentage of students picked up by their designated time and improve communication with parents.
